Even today, it reflects the lustre of large-scale, upper middle-class living in a rare unity with its complete furnishings in the Rococo, Louis XVI and Empire styles.

The Aachen master builder Couven erected the building in 1783 for the cloth manufacturer M.P.W. Troistorff, following the example of the town houses of the nobility. In keeping with the spirit of the times, the half-timbered house was plastered and decorated with ornamentation. Rich carvings on the doors with supraports and wrought ironwork on the staircase and balcony railings bear witness to the pomp and wealth of the residents.

The Eifel-Blick "Heckenland" lies at a height of approx. 520 meters above sea level and provides an insight into the "Monschauer Heckenland", an old cultural landscape that has grown over centuries and is unique in Europe. It is integrated into the "Höfener Heckenweg" circular hiking trail.

The Weaving Mill Museum Höfen accommodates a piece of historic industrial culture from the North Eifel: Four of the last remaining looms from the time of the small weaving mills in the Altkries Monschau. The waged weavers located in Höfen, Konzen or Roetgen, among other locations, particularly worked for the cloth factories in the Aachen region up to the 70s of the 20th century.

The tower on the Rahmenberg above the market square is one of the town's most striking landmarks. The ruins can be reached in just a few minutes via a footpath over the "Half Moon", another viewpoint on the way up.

Why would you want to explore Monschau’s places of interest by foot when you can ride comfortably on the town train and learn about the history of the cloth makers’ town? During the 30 minute round trip, we will show you Monschau and travel high up to the castle where you can enjoy the panorama with a view of the town in the valley and the Haller Ruin.

The Perlenbach near Monschau has been dammed for drinking water supply since 1956.

The Kierberg lies at an altitude of 450 meters above sea level. From here you can look over the picturesque old town of the climatic health resort Monschau. Monschau was first mentioned in a document as early as 1198. A little later the lords of "Montjoie" built a castle on a rocky promontory above the Rur valley.

The Eifel view "Grünenthal" near Monschau-Imgenbroich offers a view over the valley of the upper Rur at an altitude of 490 meters above sea level before it flows into the Rur reservoir.

"Ruitzhof" belongs to Monschau-Kalterherberg and is located at 570 meters above sea level.

Peter Sußner lives and works as a freelance artist in the historic Dreistegen cloth factory on the edge of Monschau's old town.

At 658 meters above sea level, the Steling is the highest elevation in the Aachen city region. The excellent visibility was the reason why there was once even a fire watch tower on the Steling, and the view extends far to the east over the Eifel National Park.

From the Perdsley, visitors can look out over the picturesque Rur valley at a height of around 400 meters above sea level in the direction of Monschau. The name is made up of the words "Perd" for horse and "Ley" for rock.

From the smallest mouse to bears and lions, you can go on a journey of discovery here. Experience a tour through nature as it once was or can still be found today. The Nature Learning Experience Museum displays over 1000 specimens on approx. 200 square meters.

The bronze statue at the old customs office in Mützenich commemorates the post-war years of coffee smuggling in the former smuggling village of Mützenich, which looks back on an exciting and fascinating past and has some curious stories to tell. Having become a German exclave on Belgian territory due to the Vennbahn after the Second World War, coffee smuggling flourished in the village as it was at the center of the smuggling routes.
