The Red Sandstone Route in the Rureifel

The Red Sandstone Trail in the Rureifel is a hiking trail approximately 40 kilometers long that winds through stunning natural scenery and striking red rock formations. Between Kreuzau and the Urft Dam, the trail winds along narrow paths through the Rur Valley and the Eifel National Park—offering magnificent views, tranquil forests, and highlights like Nideggen Castle. Ideal for anyone who loves nature and outdoor activity—and easily manageable in stages thanks to the Rur Valley Railway.

    Buntsandsteinroute

There are numerous partner trails along the Eifelsteig, which also serve as feeders to the Eifelsteig, including the Buntsandstein route. This partner trail is in no way inferior to the main route of the Eifelsteig in terms of quality and attractiveness and also meets the strict criteria of the German Hiking Association with regard to natural hiking trails with beautiful views - preferably without asphalt and reflecting almost all the beauty of the Eifel in a very small area.
