Hiking Trail No. 34, “Öm de Kier”:

Along the trail, you’ll need to cross the Weidenbach stream using stepping stones. If the Weidenbach is in flood, the local detour runs along Hiking Trail 33 to Rurberg.

Hiking Trails No. 27, 24, 32, 62

In the Belgenbach Valley, hiking trails must be rerouted because the path is no longer accessible. In the municipality of Simmerath, this affects Hiking Trail 27; in the Monschau city area, it affects Trails 24, 32, and 62. The detour is also signposted on-site. 

Route Change for Hiking Trail No. 25 – Out and About in Monschau

The route of this hiking trail has been changed in the Oberer Mühlenberg and Austraße area and now runs along Eschbachstraße and through the market square (start of the 3rd Eifelsteig stage).

Changed Route for Hiking Trail No. 36: Historic Hiking Trail

Historical Hiking Trail No. 36 has been permanently rerouted because the bridge over the Kall River is no longer standing due to storm damage. The new route is signposted.

Hiking Trails in the Hürtgenwald Closed

Following the forest fire in the Hürtgenwald, hiking trails 04, 14, and 34 in Gey and Großhau are partially accessible. Please observe the barriers and do not enter the closed-off area.

“Wildnis-Trail” and “Buntsandstein Route” near Heimbach:

Due to road resurfacing and slope stabilization work, the “Wildnis-Trail” and “Buntsandstein Route” hiking trails will be rerouted until approximately April 2027. Please follow the detour.

Above Pleushütte (Einruhr) – Eifelsteig

Work is taking place in the forest above Pleushütte near Einruhr. Work is expected to begin on September 20, 2026. When the work will be completed depends on various factors and therefore cannot yet be determined. For your own safety, the trails on the affected slope and directly below it will be completely closed. We recommend that Eifelsteig hikers between Dedenborn and Einruhr use the trails north of the Rur River (marked as the RurUfer-Radweg). The trail above the closed area (Wildnis-Trail) across the ridge remains open.

Between Hammer and Dedenborn – Eifelsteig

Forest work is underway in the Langerscheider Forest between Hammer and Dedenborn. As a result, critical sections of the trail must be completely closed. The Eifelsteig is also affected. Work is expected to begin on September 20, 2026. When the work will be completed depends on various factors and therefore cannot yet be predicted. For your own safety, the trails on the affected slope and directly below it will be completely closed. We recommend taking alternative routes on the other side of the Rur (marked as the RurUfer-Radweg) and rejoining the Eifelsteig via the Heckenland Route behind the Dedenborn youth campground. The trail above the closed area, over the Langerscheid ridge, remains open.

Closure of Hiking Trail No. 05: Zweifall History Tour

From October 5, 2026, through November 6, 2026, the hiking trail at the Schleifmühle in Zweifall will be completely closed due to tree-felling work as part of the Wehe diversion project. Passage is not possible. Corresponding signs are posted on site. 

Detour for Hiking Trail No. 55 – Romantic Rur Valley

Due to bridge renovation, the temporary bridge at Dreistegen is closed to pedestrians until further notice. A detour adding 2 km to the route is signposted. 

Detour for Hiking Trail No. 49 – Monastery Loop

Due to rock excavation and slope stabilization work, the hiking trail will be rerouted until December 2027 (expected). Please follow hiking trail T5.

Detour for Hiking Trails No. 26, 36, 55, and 75 and Stage 3 of the Eifelsteig

Due to forestry work, hiking trails No. 26 - Rurauenweg, 36 - Rur-Panoramaweg, 55 - Forest Nature Trail, 75 - Püngelbach, and Stage 3 of the Eifelsteig will be rerouted. Please follow the detour signs on site.

Closure of the Krawutschke Tower – Hiking Trail No. 93 Krawutschke Weg

Due to construction work, the Krawutschke Tower is closed until further notice. The hiking trail remains accessible. (As of Oct. 28, 2026)

Detour in Monschau on Eifelsteig Stage 02 

Due to forestry work, the second stage of the Eifelsteig is being rerouted until approximately February 2027. The detour is signposted on site.
