Between historic hammer mills and sawmills
The Zweifall History Tour combines nature with the history of technology and craftsmanship. Stretching about 15 kilometers, it winds through the Vicht Valley—a place where water has served as a source of energy, a raw material, and a lifeline for centuries.
The route follows old mill ditches, passing historic hammer mills, charcoal kilns, and sawmills. Here, water power was harnessed to process wood and forge iron—long before the advent of power grids and machine shops.
At the same time, the trail tells the story of the close relationship between the forest and the village: of the trades that shaped the forest, and of the people who built houses, tools, and a future out of wood.
A hike that shows how deeply work, craftsmanship, and the landscape are intertwined in Zweifall. The loop trail runs mostly along forest and logging roads, is easy to walk, and is ideal for a half-day hike—for anyone interested in history, traditional crafts, and the connection between nature and culture.
The hike is marked with the number 05.
