Familie Imdorf

The family of Josef Imdorf was a Mausbacher family with Jewish religious affiliation. The naming of the path as “Familie Imdorf Weg” in 2003 is intended to commemorate the family's suffering during the Nazi era. Their residence was No. 33 on Gressenicher Straße. In November 2016, so-called Stolpersteine were laid in memory of the family's fate.

The Imdorf Family from Mausbach

The family Imdorf was a Jewish family from Mausbach that had many relatives of the same name and religion in Gressenich. Since 2003, the “Familie Imdorf Weg” has been a reminder of their fate during the time of National Socialism. Additionally, Stolpersteine were laid in front of the family's residence at Gressenicher Straße 33 in November 2016.

Martha Imdorf ran a small textile shop in her house. Her husband Josef worked as a painter and was involved in the artistic interior painting of the Mausbacher parish church.

Martha Imdorf passed away in December 1940, not only due to physical ailments but also from grief over her family's difficult situation under the pressure of the Nazi regime. Her two sons, Erich and Walter, managed to flee to Palestine in 1939 – at that time, they were 16 and 14 years old.

After the death of his wife, Josef Imdorf remained in Mausbach with his youngest son Helmut. He tried to secure their livelihood through painting work.

As early as 1941 Josef and his then 14-year-old son Helmut were taken by the National Socialists to a Stolberg camp where arbitrariness, hunger, and torture were omnipresent. In 1942, both were deported to a extermination camp and murdered there. It is suspected that it was a camp near Graudenz (Poland).
