Burg Hengebach

Hengebach Castle was built on a graywacke rock in the 11th century. It is one of the oldest buildings in the Eifel. Over the centuries, the historic walls have experienced an eventful history. Various lords once lived and ruled at the fortress. The lion of the Jülich dynasty of counts still adorns the town's coat of arms, and the courtyards, battlements and keep are open to the public free of charge all year round. 2009 saw the International Art Academy Heimbach/Eifel take up residence in the castle, which is illuminated at night.

    The Red House was built around 1760 as a residential and business house by the cloth maker and businessman, Johann Heinrich Scheibler. Even today, it reflects the lustre of large-scale, upper middle-class living in a rare unity with its complete furnishings in the Rococo, Louis XVI and Empire styles.

    Jugendstil-Wasserkraftwerk Heimbach

    Heimbach

    In 1905, the hydroelectric power plant in Heimbach at the Urft dam went into operation as the largest hydroelectric power plant in the world at that time.
