The mayor's office of the former municipality of Gressenich was used by various institutions until 2010, most recently by the police. The house is now a monument.

The former municipality of Gressenich

Until the establishment of the parish of St. Markus, Mausbach was legally part of Gressenich. Secular administrative matters were also managed in Gressenich until 1892. At the end of the 19th century, in light of the population growth in Mausbach, it was decided to establish a new mayor's office in the town. The seat of the municipality of Gressenich was relocated to Mausbach, with the gable and main entrance of the building initially oriented towards Gressenich to pay respect to the old municipality.

In 1934, a renovation took place: the main entrance was relocated to the street side, and above the portal, the municipal coat of arms was installed based on a design by the heraldist Wolfgang Pagenstecher. With the municipal reorganization in 1972, when Gressenich, Mausbach, Schevenhütte, Werth, and Vicht became part of the city of Stolberg, the German Red Cross (DRK) moved into the building and used it until 2007. Johannes Mathar, recipient of the Federal Cross of Merit, managed a branch of the Stolberg city administration during this time.

In 2007, the senior care operator Hubert Schüller purchased the building. The police used the old mayor's office until 2010, then moved to Vicht due to structural deficiencies. The listed building became urgently in need of renovation and was registered on the city's monument list.

On February 7, 2018, a fire destroyed the historic roof structure. In August 2022, Frank Conrads, managing director of BSR Schotterwerk GmbH, together with his father Helmut, acquired the property from the Schüller heirs. They founded the "Alte Bürgermeisterei GBR" with the goal of properly restoring the historic building and the roof structure.
