Ceramics by Karin Schmidt, turned objects by Bernd Schmidt, textiles from the hand weaver Daniela Flinspach, and image rugs by W. Finteis and Daniela Flinspach 'Weaving Words, Weaving Images'

As every year in September, the studio invites you to explore the works of ceramicist Karin Schmidt and turner Bernd Schmidt, along with the works of two guest artists this year.

Daniela Flinspach's handwoven products, such as scarves in various yarn combinations, cheerful dish towels in GOTS quality, and crossbags made from handmade fabrics, merge traditional craftsmanship with modern sustainability. She exclusively uses sustainably produced yarn of the highest quality, which meets animal-friendly and organic standards whenever possible and is manufactured in an environmentally friendly manner. Each of her products is carefully handcrafted and reflects the connection between contemporary design and a conscious lifestyle. In Stolberg, she operates the studio 'Webendig'.

-Weaving words into pictures- is the collaborative project of graphic designer Wilhelm Finteis and Daniela Flinspach. The design process begins with a shared compelling content, then focuses into verses, becomes visible in graphic design, and ultimately is crafted into a tapestry on the high loom.

Karin Schmidt's colorful vessels for the little flowers by the roadside originated from the desire to create a visually pleasing container appropriate in size for daisies, other early blossoms, and grasses, brightened by cheerful "ball colors." Naturally, throughout the year, other blooms also find a good home in them. Her new Raku objects combine ceramics with glass inserts, appealing even when no flowers are displayed but rather valuable objects. Turner Bernd Schmidt showcases, among other things, his vessels turned from local wood on the theme "The Last House." As with all his works, the turner draws attention to the optical and sensual beauty of wood. The growth marks of the tree, with all its inclusions and injuries, can be read like signs.

This and the color of the wood find their recognition in works with clear forms. Only through perfect processing on the lathe does the tactile and visual quality of local woods, such as Eifel beech, cherry, oak, ash, or yew, become tangible and highlighted for a worthy final casing.

As always, the exhibition takes place on the last two weekends in September; this year on 19.-20. and 27.-28. 09.2026 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., during the week by appointment (02473 – 931798) or via email (info@drehsinn.de). The studio is also open year-round for visitors, located at Kapellenstraße 7 in Simmerath-Huppenbroich.
