Description

As soon as snow falls in the Eifel, the landscape is transformed into a winter paradise and you can go tobogganing, cross-country skiing or downhill skiing! The small ski areas in the Eifel have many advantages for winter sports fans: short journey times, a family atmosphere, cozy huts and great opportunities for tobogganing and cross-country skiing. There are numerous trails around the Monschau region where cross-country skiers can let off steam, for example in Lammersdorf, Eicherscheid, Kalterherberg, Höfen and Rohren. The "Antoniusbrücke" trail shown here is approx. 5 kilometers long and is located in the south of Monschau and leads through the idyllic Höfen forest.

Discover the national park region in winter and enjoy the crisp winter air in a landscape that, covered in hoarfrost, glitters in the sun as if by magic. If the weather cooperates, there will be plenty of snow in the Monschau region, and the steep Rur Valley—with its adjacent forests and meadows surrounding the Monschau villages—will transform into a paradise for skiing and snow enthusiasts.

For example, in the Monschau-Höfen area, you can choose from three different cross-country ski loop trails, each about five kilometers long, provided snow conditions allow for the use of a trail groomer.

  • Antoniusbrücke Cross-Country Trail, 4.5 kilometers,
  • Wahlerscheid Cross-Country Trail, 5.5 kilometers,
  • Rothe Kreuz Trail, 5 kilometers,

Depending on your preference, you can combine these cross-country ski trails in various ways. The “Rothe Kreuz” trail shown here is 5 kilometers long in total.
