Anyone driving through Konzen on the main road would hardly think that this village is the oldest settlement in the region. From the end of the 8th century, around 400 years before Monschau Castle was built and around 550 years before Monschau was first mentioned as a "stat", "Compendium", as it is called in a document from 888, became the center of the repopulation of the Monschau region as a continuation of a Roman settlement.
