The "New Evangelical School" in Mausbach: From school operation to community center
The building of the "New School" in Mausbach initially served exclusively for Catholic education. From 1961 onwards, evangelical students were also admitted here, as the number of evangelical families steadily grew due to flight, expulsion, and labor migration into the Stolberg industry.
As early as 1953, a survey among parents regarding the re-education of their children in the evangelical school in Zweifall had taken place. However, since the journey to the school in Zweifall was long and arduous, many parents decided to establish an evangelical branch in Mausbach.
On April 14, 1961, two classrooms for 69 evangelical students were set up on the upper floor of the "New School," while the Catholic primary school continued to use the lower floor. From 1968 onwards, the lower level of the Catholic school also moved in, so that both types of schools shared the building.
Since the 1990s, the former school has served as a community center, used for club events, festivities, and public meetings, and represents a central meeting point for the community of Mausbach.
