SHADOW PLAYSVocal music in contrast between beauty and threatCommissioned compositions by Andy Janssen, Aljoscha Ristow, and Nima Pournaghshband as well as works by Maurice Ravel, Francis Poulenc, and othersMusical direction: Johannes Honecker and Aljoscha RistowScenic concept: Anna Jussen

Imagine you could take a snapshot of our Earth, a picture of all people and living beings. You see playing children, morning coffee drinking, cheerful village festivals – but also wars, losses, diseases.

In their concert program 'Shadow Plays', the Aachen vocal soloists (short: AaVokaSo) invite you to explore these contrasts together. The focus is on three commissioned compositions specifically created for the ensemble by Nima Pournaghshband (Cologne), Andy Janssen (Aachen), and Aljoscha Ristow (Maastricht), supplemented among others by works by Maurice Ravel and Francis Poulenc. A shadow wall additionally opens up a visual layer. The twelve-voice ensemble ranges from solo transparency to full choral sound, connecting music and shadow plays into a striking concert experience.
