Today, the beaver is fortunately once again native to many landscapes in Germany, including the Rureifel along the Rur. Here, one can see in many places what the beaver is capable of when it builds dams and castles, creates canals for floating timber, and establishes beaver meadows to satisfy its needs, thereby crafting a customized home.

In doing so, this master builder of nature also creates a habitat for many other animals and plants, including those that have almost disappeared from modern landscapes – the beaver is therefore a true ecosystem engineer.
