When the forests of the Eifel transform into a sea of bright colors in autumn, the Kalltal reveals itself in its particularly atmospheric aspect. Initially, narrow paths lead steeply up through the autumnal forest, before opening up to a semi-open landscape with impressive views between mighty tree backdrops. Subsequently, the path leads down into the idyllic valley of the Kall, where the wild and romantic mountain stream meanders peacefully through the landscape. On our way, we discover historical traces of World War II and experience how closely nature and history are intertwined here. After another challenging ascent, we are rewarded with a beautiful view over the autumnal Eifel landscape. Thereafter, we dive once more into the fascinating world of the forest, where colorful leaves, gnarled trees, and the special light of autumn create a unique atmosphere. To conclude, the hike passes by a memorial site of a former water mill – with the preserved drive shaft and a millstone from the year 1888, a special testimony to the historical milling tradition awaits us here.
