Bildungsurlaub: Wildnis Trail

A five-day program gives you an incredible insight into a wonderful hiking experience through forests, stream valleys and mountain meadows in the Eifel National Park.

The Wilderness Trail in the Eifel National Park is a comprehensive, wonderful hiking experience through forests, stream valleys and mountain meadows. It also leads across the plateau of the former military training area and to the former National Socialist "Ordensburg Vogelsang".

On day tours, you will get to know the diversity of the landscapes of the Eifel National Park and the exciting development back into a European natural forest.

A selection of native animals and plants and their special relationships are presented under various aspects. Evolutionary, ecological and biophysical characteristics reveal the intensive interweaving of nature. And they show why it is so important to protect these comprehensive natural processes in national parks. However, the Eifel National Park is unique in another way: the former National Socialist "Ordensburg" Vogelsang is right in the middle of it. An examination of the site immediately raises the question of what a human being actually is, what a human being is actually allowed to do.

The current discussions about climate change and social values make it increasingly urgent to examine our own ideas about nature, people and living together. In the Eifel National Park in particular, it is possible to deduce which concepts and conditions could lead to successful nature conservation.

Objective:

The participants

• learn about approaches, experiences and perspectives of a special nature conservation concept and sustainable regional development,
• develop ideas on how the findings can be transferred to other regions,
• gain great insight into the complexity of natural processes and the interconnectedness of nature. This gives them an idea of how vulnerable ecological balances are.
• examine their own attitudes towards nature and people.
• learn about opportunities for civic engagement.

• Those interested in getting involved in civic engagement,
• Interested parties who are politically or professionally involved in nature conservation issues and sustainable regional development,
• Employees of other large protected areas
• Members of nature and environmental protection initiatives and associations,
• Local and regional politicians

*The seminar is recognized as educational leave for continuing political education in NRW, Rhineland-Palatinate, Thuringia and Berlin. The event is organized in cooperation with the Bildungswerk der Heinrich Böll Stiftung Nordrhein-Westfalen e. V.
