Eifel-Blick "Schöne Aussicht"

Nideggen

The Eifel view "Schöne Aussicht" on the "Simonsley" (415 metres above sea level) offers you an impressive panorama above the Rursee in a south-east to south-west direction, with the "Kermeter", a core area in the Eifel National Park, catching your eye.

Iron ore was mined at "Simonsley" until the 19th century. The founder of the ironworks in Simonskall, Simon Kremer, owned mining rights at this site in the 17th century and operated an iron ore mine, so that the name "Simonsley" (Ley = rock) still refers to it today. In addition, former tunnels and pits (mounds with depressions) can be found here, which indicate active excavation activity.

How to get there: You can reach Schmidt from Düren via the L 249 to Nideggen, then change to the L 246, from Heimbach via the L 218, from the Cologne-Bonn area via the B 265 and L 11 to Nideggen, then change to the L 246, from the Monschauer Land via the L 246 and L 218, and from the Aachener Land via the B 399 and L 218. The car park is in the immediate vicinity of "Eifel-Blick", at the end of the street "Schöne Aussicht" on the eastern edge of the village. GPS coordinates (WGS 84): N 50° 39.185' E 006° 25.350'
