Despite of a certainly existing local patriotism we like to say that the vicinity of the Rur-Eifel region might also be worth seeing. A glimpse on the map will show you the places to be discovered. In Aachen the Carolus Therm, the amusement park Phantasialand in Brühl, the Wolf park in Gerolstein, where also eagle owls live, the open-air museum or the animal park in Kommern, the Red House in Monschau and the forest experience centre in Gemünd. This is only a small selection of the many opportunities offered. You can reach all these attractions within one hour by car or even by public transportation.

Cologne is with respect to population and size the fourth largest city in Germany and the biggest city in North-Rhine Westphalia. The city is known due to its 2,000 year long history, its cultural and architectural heritage and its internationally important events. The actual capital of the federal state however is Düsseldorf. In 1850 the population initially exceeded the number of 100,000, which made it a large city in today’s standards. 975,907 persons have been registered with their main domicile in Cologne - this represents the official population. Including the secondary domiciles however, the municipality counted 1,022,627 inhabitants and this is why Cologne meanwhile calls itself a metropolitan with more than one million inhabitants. Officially, Cologne has had more than one million inhabitants only in the years 1975 and 1976, and this was due to incorporations, which however have been cancelled in the meantime.

Bad Münstereifel is a medieval treasure with completely preserved and restored city wall. Next to the population of ca. 6,000 in the core town there are about 13,000 more inhabitants living in the corresponding 51 communities and hamlets. Bad Münstereifel is a place of recreation, particularly for the inhabitants of the urban centres of Cologne, Bonn, Düsseldorf and Ruhr District. Since 1974, Bad Münstereifel is a "state-approved Kneipp-spa".
